Music is about more than dancing. ADE keeps a mindful eye on this with a diverse program to get your zen on. We highlighted three of them to ensure you can find your inner peace during your stay in Amsterdam.
If you plan on visiting ADE’s Festival or Playground make sure to grab the annual ADE Card (€10,-), which gives you tons of advantages instantly.
The School of Life
The School of Life was originally founded in London by philosopher Alain de Botton and is devoted to developing emotional intelligence through the help of culture. They address issues such as how to find fulfilling work, how to master the art of relationships, how to understand your past and how to achieve calm. During ADE, their Amsterdam branch will host special classes featuring inspiring guests from the music industry.
Whether it’s a Renaissance masterpiece, a portrait by Van Gogh, or a Beethoven symphony, people can learn from great works of art. During an exploratory event, producer, songwriter and DJ Tommie Sunshine will share which works of art have inspired him to create his music and which works best depict the worlds that his tracks conjure up.
Running a business in the nightlife scene is a dream for many, but what are the real challenges you encounter when you’re planning a festival or want to create a world-class club? During an exciting evening you’ll get a chance to ask entrepreneurs Aziz Yagoub, (owner of Revolt, night club Het Transportbedrijf and the new concert venue Annabel, Rotterdam) and Michel Penders (Plus1 Events: Bungalup, Valtifest, partner at Amsterdam Open Air, Klamme Handjes Festival, The Social Garden) these and other questions first hand. If you’re dreaming of creating your own dance event, come and learn the ropes from these seasoned players in the scene.
ADE Card Advantage: Free entrance for the first 15 ADE Card holders. (Limited capacity, full is full)
Yoga at MMousse
‘The quieter you become, the more you can hear’ is the central thought to MMousse’s ADE. During our twentieth edition they will transform their downtown oasis into a temple of stillness and tranquility. To let you hear the music more clearly, MMousse provides a place where you can simply be quiet and let your senses speak where silence and music meet. These seemingly contrasting elements have more in common than you might think. The one can’t exist without the other: if there is no sound there will be no silence, and vice versa. Curious to see what impact silence has on your musical experience? Visit their yoga and meditation (Thursday & Friday) practices in the downtown oasis in Amsterdam’s central district.
LUST
During ADE you can visit the Bijbels Museum (The Biblical Museum), which presents an audio visual spectacle called LUST: ‘A Carnal Sin’. Imagine a room full of huge classical paintings where three contemporary artists present an audio-visual spectacle. Let yourself immerse in a mix of alienating VJ poetry, thundering preaches of pastors and musical clash of experimental piano and mystical sounds. The museum will take you on a journey to explore Lust in its truest nature.
"Lust is the most sacred of all deadly sins. It will either guide you to your truest love or will lead you into your darkest hour. In the dark of our city hard electronic beats will build up uncontrolled desire and drive people into each others arms. In the light of stained glass windows the thunder of the pastor’s voice redirects our desires to lust for light, and spiritual yearnings bring souls together.’"
The makers of the audio- and video performance LUST are familiar with both worlds. For ADE they will combine religion & electronic music to a performance where these two worlds meet.
Please note: Entrance is free, but due to the limited space, there's a maximum number of 50 visitors per performance is allowed. Reserve your ticket via rsvp@bijbelsmuseum.nl. Please mention 'Lust' and the date (17 October/18 October) and time in the subject.
