ADE 2014: ADE Venues, the place where classic meets contemporary

The acoustics of the Royal Concertgebouw cannot be compared to any other venue at ADE Festival.

Located in the heart of Amsterdam's museum district, the Concertgebouw is the homebase for classical music in the Netherlands. Its main concert hall is known for its amazing acoustics and many consider it to be one of the best halls in the world for symphonic music. Since 2012 classical and electronic music also meet during ADE with Maceo Plex and Sasha confirmed for this year's program.

The concert hall was designed by Adolf Leonard van Gendt and opened its doors to the public in 1888. A breath of history remains up until today, with names of 46 leading composers such as Mozart, Beethoven and Tchaikovsky on the balcony ledges and on the walls of the building's 19th century decoration. In 2013 the Concertgebouw celebrated its 125th birthday.

ADE'13: Trouw & Concertgebouw
In 2013 ADE added some flavour to the Concertgebouw's birthday celebrations. Experimental artists that searched the boundaries between electronic music and classical music were invited by club Trouw. Innervisions’ Henrik Schwarz collaborated with the Dutch Chamber Orchestra, while Nicolas Jaar and Dave Harrington performed as their live project Darkside for the first time in the Netherlands. Trouw resident Patrice Bäumel performed a hypnotizing live interpretation of Steve Reich’s “Drumming Part 2”, accompanied by a light show that was at least just as intriguing as the music.

ADE'12: Debut with Junkie XL
In 2012 Junkie XL, who will be taking part in ADE's artist fan/forum ADE MusicTalks, was the first to perform at The Concertgebouw during ADE.
