Fanatico is a new project of DJ-producer Mathias Schaffhäuser and vocalist Jorge Socarrás from New York.
The project came about when Mathias Schaffhäuser did a remix of a track from the Patrick Cowley and Jorge Socarrás vintage 70’s album, “Catholic,” which was retro-released in 2009 by Macro Music, Berlin. The two men had never met, but Socarrás contacted Schaffhäuser to say how much he liked the remix. Schaffhäuser, who was an old fan of Socarrás’ 80’s band, Indoor Life, replied suggesting that perhaps they might work together sometime. Through subsequent emails both expressed how they’d each been wanting to interpret some cover songs, eventually leading to Socarrás going to Köln in August 2010 and spending a week recording with Schaffhäuser in his studio. The two had remarkable chemistry from the start, working together as if they were longtime music partners. Indeed Socarrás felt that in Schaffhäuser’s envelope-pushing minimalism he’d found a contemporary successor to his earlier collaborators.
Dimitri Kechagias review: Yellow Tail presents the superb eclectic electronica album by the famous German dj and producer Mathias Schaffhauser and the singer Jorge Socarras. Its definitely not just another album, its a sonic adventure that you should be ready to take it or leave it without hesitations. Its better to be open minded and allow the hypnotic rhythms, the irresistible grooves, the surprising lyrics and the psychedelic rock performance by Jorge Socarras to carry mind, body and soul to unexplored territories. 10 stand out tracks, 10 stunning sonic stories, 10 statements that connect the past, present and future of EDM. Dancing Days is a deep tech house production with great percussion, science fiction effects, eastern influenced melodies and great lyrics. Tessio moves on the melodic deep tech house style with cinematic atmosphere, retro balearic house influences and feel good melodies with sing a long lyrics. Both Ends Burning is a mysterious dark haunting electronica lounge track that is passionate and goes deep in your soul every time you hear it. Linger is quite experimental funky sexy playful track that starts with ambient intro builds slowly a chunky minimal house beat that sounds more like the heart beat. 2000 Light Years has been released as single already with great success at the German Dance Charts. Its very groovy retro tech house track wih hypnotic trancy vocals, warm strings and piano chords to take you to far away places. Its sounds like a steaming train take you on board for a cool journey.
Last Call is an experimental breaks style track with chopped vocals, distorted voices and pulsating minimal beat to keep the dream going. Dreams is the excellent make over of the classic Fleetwood Mac track. Its one of the best covers ever made on this track as it opens new possibilities and new interpretations. Minimal pulsating beats, funky basslines and excellent vocals will be your perfect companion on lazy Sunday's afternoon's when you will play again and again this excellent track that we hope to get full release with additional remixes. Dancing Barefoot is awesome psychedelic breaks track that goes underground, really filthy, mysterious and spacey too. Whatever Gets You Through the Night is deep minimal tech house meets lounge house track that can fuel your imagination to dance a long with closed eyes and wide open ears. Lastly Zarathustra is an unsettling breaks style track that sounds like a mysterious prayer with filmic atmosphere. Overall is an album that will satisfy the audience who like to go under the surface and discover the real essence of any music composition. Recommended.
