The man instrumental in the success of the Swedish entourage, Joel Mull releases his ‘Tracks of the Night’ EP on March 25th.
From his beginnings in Stockholm, he’s been a preacher of the underground gospel and a key part in redefining Sweden’s music persona. Running side by side with the likes of Adam Beyer, Jesper Dahlback, and Cari Lekebusch his thundering take on techno rarely shifts from the kick heavy sound that has become Sweden’s signature accent.
Previous releases with the likes of Cocoon, Drumcode and Saved show his ability to balance sounds from across a spectrum with sturdy rhythms, chords, and melody to create soundscapes suited to both festival and basement. This mix from energetic percussions and deep synths to lighter, vocal featured techno can be seen across the 4 tracks ‘Track Of The Night’, ‘Open’, ‘Tintins Journey’ and ‘Towards The Sun’.
Last Night On Earth hits the spot once more, with this solid slice of techno and another display of the label’s diversity and ability to pluck talent from the far corners of every genre.
Dimitri Kechagias review: The top record label One Night On Earth continues its impressive journeys through the colorful world of EDM with another must own EP from Joe Mull. If you love the nightlight put your headphones and check out the massive glowing tunes included and already causing a lot of interest in the world of techno. Firstly Track Of The Night opens the proceedings in the finest fashion. Its dark haunting progressive techno beauty that is spacey, unresting, threatening, mysterious and most importantly danceable and pumping. The track relentlessly builds up its various elements with some old school sound samples and even some cool melodies. The groove and its rhythm is absolutely involving and can keep you hypnotised on the dancefloor feeling the deliciousness of techno. Next is Open. If you like great percussion, excellent programming, cool old school vocal samples, driving deep basslines, tribal beats and compositions that keep you breathless, dont even think to miss it. It will Open millions of possibilities on the dancefloor for you. Third top track is Tintins Journey. Its an upbeat melodic progressive techno track with trancy elements that is definitely optimistic, feel good with the atmosphere of the early morning dancefloors. Relaxing with ambient loungy infusions that will remind you in a way Underworld productions. While I was writing these lines it was hard not to start dancing in my chair. Lastly the top Joel Mull presents Towards The Sun. The basslines, the kick, the mechanical beat and the whole atmosphere is tougher more punchy and ready for action. Slowly cool melodic lines appearing to add light and sunshine to it. Short breakdown and then carries on its journey Towards the Sun. Progressive techno at its very best, Love iT!
