1-Dimitris: It would be nice to start by telling us your 3 most important achievements or goals fulfilled in your career so far that you very are proud of.
Lorenzo Turco: My achievements changed as I achieved them.
1-Today my greatest achievement is to be the largest reference in my city.
2-Then see that my music plays among other artists and play my own tracks
3-Belong to stamps of great character.
2-Dimitris: Why and under which circumstances did you took the decision to start DJing or producing electronic dance music?
Lorenzo Turco: Because it is a passion, where I always enjoy sharing music, dancing, and sharing with friends and/or local people. Then starting to produce was a challenge because I wanted to advance further and become more professional in my career.
3-Dimitris: Can you note down the top 3 producers that have influenced your decision to get involved in the electronic dance music scene and you admire and respect them very much?
Lorenzo Turco: Tale of Us
Hernan Cattaneo
ARBAT
4-Dimitris: It would be fantastic to talk about your latest EP on UV Noir with Messier incl. Aghatta/Arrival Please tell us how these tracks came about and what was the idea behind them.
Lorenzo Turco: In this Ep something very particular happened, I had been working on some projects and along the way I met Messier, I started sharing ideas and I proposed the idea of sharing the ep with 2 ideas that I had started, he gave it his critical point and we started working on it. projects together having a lot of similarity in decision making, the tracks emerged on their own and some sounds in particular came out on their own almost without imagining them.
We always base ourselves on a groove base, with very decisive melodies and a forceful bass.
5-Dimitris: How long it took you to produce the tracks and can u describe the production process in simple steps?
Lorenzo Turco: We stayed for approximately 1 and a half months.
We start the projects with the exchange of ideas.
Then Messier added his elements and sent it to me again.
We work on the arrangement and the mix
We export the track every day with some changes to listen to it and be critical.
Once the idea was finished, we sent the tracks to be mastered
6-Dimitris: Did you had any particular difficulties accomplishing those particular tracks or any specific technical challenges or obstacles that you had to overcome during its production.
Lorenzo Turco: I never had problems producing, my phrase is, the road is long, no one stops you.
If the track has to take 3 months to do while sitting 7 hours a day, I'm fine with it.
7-Dimitris: If you would have the opportunity to change something in your tracks and maybe to do a new remix what elements are you unhappy with and you are going to change? Is there any artist that you feel would be fantastic to remix this track and why?
Lorenzo Turco: I think I like these tracks a lot. If I had to make a remix, maybe I would make it more techno-intensive and modify the BPM.
8- Dimitris: Which music composition software or hardware you prefer and why? What is your opinion of the latest movement to produce music with more analogue equipment and with less or without any digital software?
Lorenzo Turco: Ableton Live, I think it is very educational, there are many trainings and many resources to use it.
I consider that the best way to produce is with analog equipment, the big difference between one thing and the other is the investment to make music, today with a computer it gives you a wide range of opportunities, but analog will always be better.
9-Dimitris: Do you prefer vocal or instrumental tracks? If there are vocals on the track we discuss about tell us about the singer you work with?
Lorenzo Turco: I like both, I have no preferences, if I use vocals I never worked with singers, I always tried to get them in galleries or video clippings.
10-Dimitris: Are there any vocalists/singers on electronic dance music you aspire to work with?
Lorenzo Turco: Giorgia Angiuli is a vocalist who I love what she does.
11-Dimitris: Can you pick your favorite top 3 record labels including the one released the track that we discuss in this interview and give us a short comment about why these labels are important to you and the music scene too?
Lorenzo Turco: UV NOIR, SUNEXPLOSION, AFTERLIFE.
UvNoir and Sunexplosion were 2 labels that I always admired and since my journey as an artist I always wanted to get there, when I achieved it it was my greatest degree of happiness to know that I had achieved it.
Regarding Afterlife, I consume a lot of their music and what they do, their sounds greatly influence my Melodic Techno productions.
12-Dimitris: Are you planning to complete an album or mix compilation soon? if yes please give us all the details about regarding tracks and how will look and sound like?
Lorenzo Turco: Yes, I'm looking for a new release on BEATFREAk of 2 incredible tracks shared with my colleague FAR DISTANCES, but at the moment I can't say more than this.
13-Dimitris: Can you pick up your all time favorite album or compilation and tell us why you adore it so much?
Lorenzo Turco: I really like the track Hera by Space Motion, I think it was one of the best releases of the moment. It combines a very interesting vocal with a groove that warms up the track.
14-Dimitris:How much time do you spend promoting yourself in your social media and you see this as essential tool for self promotion and getting bookings too? Which social media is the one that seems to work better for you?
Lorenzo Turco: I dedicate a lot of time, mainly to the networks to know what I want to transmit and how to transmit it. I think networks are the best way to be seen and reach people.
15-Dimitris: Do you have any gigs/festival performances confirmed so far for 2023 in which ones are you most excited to perform and why?
Lorenzo Turco: At the moment I haven't closed any big festivals. All events are in my area for approximately 500 to 1000 people.
16-Dimitris: Please share your most funny and most serious incident that happen to you during your DJ or LIVE PA performance?
Lorenzo Turco: The most fun was putting a disco vocal and mixing it with a Melodic Techno, people started singing the track regardless of what was playing in the background, there was applause and it was an epic moment which I returned home wanting to create the song. clue.
The most serious was playing the PLAY of the track playing instead of the opposite deck to mix, hahaha
17-Dimitris: Are you happy about the quality of the tracks released in your preferred music genres? Please justify your answer with your opinion about it!
Lorenzo Turco: Yes, I agree that the competition is increasingly broad and there are very elaborate tracks with great talent.
18-Dimitris: If you expect to have a steady income from your music productions are you satisfied with the way that royalties system works particularly regarding streaming revenue? Do you believe that artists get what they deserve from streaming providers/DJs playing your tracks in gigs/radio and selling music in physical formats like CDs/Vinyl or digitally.
Lorenzo Turco: I do not have income from musical productions, I think that sometimes it is difficult to belong to a system where it practically forces you to invest all the time and you do not receive much in return until you achieve consolidation as an artist and music where it is consumed.
19-Dimitris: Please note for all the new talents that read this interview to get some inspiration from you any technical tips in relation to your DJing or music productions. Also any piece of personal or music business' advice that has helped you to progress even further and is worth telling to the new upcoming talents.
Lorenzo Turco: The most important thing is to be patient and achieve emotional stability to produce. It is inevitable to get frustrated and want to throw everything away, but making emotions your driving force is the key to this path.
20-Dimitris: Many producers and DJs offer online masterclasses or teach to music production & DJing courses. Do you believe is essential to take part in any of these courses to develop your skills? Are you are offering any of these services? or other related services like ghost-producing or mastering? please tell us about these activities
Lorenzo Turco: I'm not offering it yet, but I would love to participate in some training for artists.
21-Dimitris: Is there a club classic that you would like to remix or rework in 2023? Do you attempt often to do your own bootlegs of classics?
Lorenzo Turco: I would like to do it with Sirens by Rebuke
22-Dimitris: How much do you care if your fans or followers like your productions? Do you struggle with the audience reception of your tracks and is this thought adds extra pressure on you and discourage you too?
Lorenzo Turco: I think that the acceptance of what you do by people and friends is very important, but the fact that they don't like it gives me encouragement to continue and do something irrelevant.
23-Dimitris: Can you describe your music as certain music genre such as trance, house, techno or your music exempts these categorizations? What is your opinion about hybrid styles and artists who are attempting to mix influences from various genres in their tracks?
Lorenzo Turco: My genre ranges from progressive house to Melodic Techno. I am a lover of electronic music in general, I like all genres and there is nothing better than making genres mix, there can always be a good idea.
24-Dimitris: Is your music business your full time occupation and are you able to make a leaving out of your music business (DJ/producer/label owner/teaching or mastering tracks)? If not what other jobs are you doing in order to support your income?
Lorenzo Turco: No, my family business is my full time, I would love to dedicate myself to music but the income doesn't give me the opportunity.
25-Dimitris: Do you believe that audience should be banned from constantly taking photos or videos during DJ sets or are you happy with these activities?
Lorenzo Turco: I like photos and videos, I think it is part of the moment and technological advance, as long as they are respectful and without disturbing the artist.
26-Dimitris: Do you prefer small clubs or huge festivals to perform? in which festivals or clubs you aspire to play in the future?
Lorenzo Turco: Everything suits me in this regard, I adapt to the situation and prepare something different for each event.
