REVIEW: Push vs Rebel Boy - Blue Shadow Ep out on Bonzai Records

 We welcome Push back to Bonzai Records alongside debutant Rebel Boy with their superb studio collab entitled 'Blue Shadow'. Based out of New York City, Push is considered with legendary status which is justified by his contribution to the history of electronic dance music. A global icon who keeps on creating new ways to make us lose it on the floors. Rebel Boy is currently based in Los Angeles and has come from a trance background into the rabbit hole of techno music. Having taken up the grittier sounds, his work quickly moved into the limelight, with his brand of techno gaining a solid rep on the scene. He is becoming one of the most celebrated new talents and definitely one to keep on your radar.

We begin with the tough and techy 'Blue Shadow' with its nod and subtle melodic reference to past endeavours which add a touch of nostalgia that raises the hairs on your neck. A strong and powerful groove is constructed around punchy kicks, dark stabs, sub-level basses and of course, that fine display of trance bliss. 'RD Mode' wraps up the release, delivering an edgy, ballsy techno joint that will get the floors rocking no doubt. Heavy duty kick drums lead as a deep techno rumble locks in the low-end. Everything says techno monster in the track, and it is, but on the break, we're treated to a sublime, highly emotive melodic break that climaxes with a snare roll and a huge drop back into murky techno waters. Top-notch stuff.

Brilliant synthy layers, trancy gated voices and acid stabs that create together a powerful anthem that techno and trance DJ's can adopt easily and adapt in their sets. RD Mode is an 8 minutes prime time techno weapon with minimal bouncy techy basslines, metallic dominating kicks and powerful drums.
