BEST OF 2019 Interview with Disco Lines


Thadeus Labuszewski, better known by his stage name Disco Lines, is an American DJ and music producer from Boulder, Colorado. He gained recognition after his remix of the track “Eastside” by Benny Blanco, Halsey and Khalid gardened over a million plays on SoundCloud. Although Disco Lines has been playing piano/guitar since he was a kid, his passion lies in the art of music production. His tracks are filled with a certain vibrance. Mixing future bass, trap and deep house, Disco Lines has developed a unique and technical sound. Currently entering his senior year at the University of Colorado, Boulder, Disco Lines has opened for Hippie Sabotage, Elephante, PLS&TY, Dombresky, Cut Snake, SoDown, Justin Jay and more. With brand new originals, official remixes and shows across the country, this producer is pushing the limits of what a young musician can do.



Dimitris: Your biggest music career achievements in 2019:
Disco Lines: My biggest music career achievements this year were reaching 15,000 fans on Spotify and headlining the Fox Theater in my hometown of Boulder Colorado. The opportunity to play my music live  in front of hundreds of people is one of the coolest feelings in the world!

Disco Lines: 5...I have a big presence in my hometown of Boulder but I still have a lot of room to grow outside of Colorado.

- For this song I wanted to incorporate real instruments and focus on vocal processing... Lilly has such a beautiful timbre and I wanted to emphasize that.

- Favorite producer
- Such a crisp sound with every song he produces and his features are amazing
- Saw him at Red Rocks this summer and was impressed by his set and the production

- The original song is already so beautiful but Petit Biscuit it took it to a totally new level

- The Boom Shakalaka verse right before the drop is so clean and smooth
- Not really singing or rapping, just groovin
- Creative contrast between female vocals and male vocals
- Makes the song memorable

Disco Lines: I don’t really have a favorite but anytime someone tells me that they enjoy my music it makes my day!

- My first time going
- Awesome energy throughout the entire trip 
- Set designs were gorgeous

Disco Lines: Opening up for Hippie Sabotage at the University of Arizona
- I played in front of 2,000 people and had a blast
- Met Hippie Sabotage...extremely nice
- Production behind me was insane, giant pool, co2 cannons and massive speakers

- Ripped the guitar and put on a killer show
- Never seen such a beautiful/vibrant set

Disco Lines: Serum
- Wavetable synth where I do all my custom sound design
- Beautiful interface and easy to use 
- Helps new producers understand how synthesizers work

Disco Lines: The super wide, dark, powerful basses used by Rezz/K?D and other midtempo artists. I want to start incorporating it into my own music.

26) Best technical tips that you learnt in 2019 in relation to your DJing or music productions:
Disco Lines: Sidechaining is one of the most integral techniques of music production. It adds rhythm to your songs and if you do it properly it can elevate your tracks to a whole new level. 

27) Best piece of personal or music bussiness advice you got in relation to your career in 2019 and has helped you to progress even further:
Disco Lines: Meet as many people as you can. It's hard to have your career take off if you don't make any connections with people in the industry. It takes more than one person for a music project to become successful.

Disco Lines: Hit a bar before the flight!!

Disco Lines: Skrillex - Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites
- First dubstep song I really loved
- Hated it at first because it hurt my ears but after a few listens I realized how insane this track was



Tim Berg - Seek Bromance
- Song that got me into edm
- Avicii is one of the greatest producers of all time
- Has so much emotion and a beautiful melody to accompany it



Jack U - Where R U Now
- Fresh wubby sound
- Addictive to listen to
- Gorgeous lyrics and really creative sound



30) Best hobby or creative activity except music production in 2019:
Disco Lines: Skiing. The ski season just started in COlorado and I've already gone up 12 days. It helps me take my mind off everything going on in my life (college, work, music) and calms me down...almost to a point where it's a kind of therapy. Learning new tricks is also addictive and pushes me to get better and better. 

Dimitris: Do you have any concrete plans for 2020 regarding future releases, tracks, albums, collaborations, DJ gigs? Please provide us the juicy details.
Disco Lines: Im focusing on releasing new singles on Spotify and playing more shows out of state. Boulder is full of so many talented vocalists that I have been working with. In regards to shows, I dj a lot of  parties at my school but I love playing shows out of state. 

Dimitris: Your message & wishes for 2020.
Disco Lines: 2020 is going to be a wonderful year. I have so many new songs on the way and i’m starting to build a following which is incredible. Ill be graduating from the University of Colorado, Boulder this year and I plan on moving to San Francisco afterwards. 2019 was an amazing year but were just getting started baby!!!
