DJ K-Mixx
Dimitri: When did you start your involvement with electronic dance music ?

DJ K-Mixx: In the mid 90`s

Dimitri: Did you had the opportunity to attend any kind of music production course or are u completely self taught? Do you consider that is essential for any artist to complete any production course?

DJ K-Mixx: When I started I had to figure it out for my self with some help from some friends.  Now its helpful to take a production course but you can find so many tutorials on Youtube and on the internet.

Dimitri: In which label was your first ever release and how did you manage to attract the attention of the label?

DJ K-Mixx: The first release was a track called You ain't the first under the name Inferno that I did with DJ Prince back in 95/96. It came out on a compilation cd on the label Norske Gram and was later released on Orange Records the same label who did Faithless in Norway.

Dimitri: Can you choose for us your Top 5 tracks that you have produced and you consider them as being highly important for the progress of your career indifferent if they were commercially successful.

DJ K-Mixx:
The first one Inferno - You Aint The First because it was the first release

Number 2 Inferno - Move It went to number 1 on the Norwegian dance chart and It was also the first collaboration with Justin K

Number 3 IRS - Typhoon  the first track we signed to EMI in Sweden

Number 4 Justin K & DJ K-Mixx - Northern lights The track was massive in 2001 that track put us on the map and was featured on more than 50 compilations that year including the Trance Energy CD :-)

Number 5 K-MIXX - Arctic Breeze because its the new one

Dimitri: -Let's focus on your latest release. Please tell us from where did you got the inspiration for the track?

DJ K-Mixx: I really don't know, where it came from

Dimitri: How long it took you to produce it and was an easy or difficult process? If you have faced any difficulties please tell us about them and how did you resolved them?

DJ K-Mixx:  Not that difficult, it came pretty easy.

Dimitri: Which was the biggest challenge that you faced during the production of this superb track?

DJ K-Mixx: To get a good mix down.

Dimitri: Can you describe to us the steps that you went through the production of this track and of any other track?

DJ K-Mixx: I had some of the melody but I needed to find the right  kick and baseline and build the track around it and add more layers to the track.

Dimitri: When the track finished did the label accepted it as it was produced or did the label recommend you to do some changes or fix certain things?

DJ K-Mixx
DJ K-Mixx: Pretty much, just some small changes

Dimitri: Is this track an original composition or is it based on a template from another track produced from you or another producer?

DJ K-Mixx: It's an original composition.

Dimitri: Is the quality of this track higher than your previous one? If yes in what ways this track sounds better than your previous one?

DJ K-Mixx: The tracks get better every time.

Dimitri: Do you have any friends or relatives that you send them the track before sending it to a label or if you are DJ did you test it in your gigs? If yes did you have to do any alterations as a result of the crowd reaction?

DJ K-Mixx: I test the track when I DJ and If I am happy with it, I send it to some friends to get their reactions.

Dimitri: Please describe to us the studio that you have produced the track? What is your favourite hardware and software set up? Do you have in mind any new gear that you wish to get in order to raise the quality of your production?

DJ K-Mixx: Its not that advanced a set-up its a iMac running Cubase and a lot of soft synths like Nexus and Sylenth and a Roland jp8080 rack module and KRK VXT studio monitors.

Dimitri: Do you master the track yourself or the mastering is task for the record label? Do you understand mastering as being essential?

DJ   K-Mixx: I like to send the track out to get mastered. Its nice to get some professional help to do that. Mastering is essential to make the track sound great but if you're mix is shit all the mastering in the world can't save it.

Dimitri: Do you have any future releases planned and when will be released?

DJ K-Mixx: There will be some more releases this year but the dates for the releases are not set yet.

DJ K-Mixx
Dimitri:  Your Top 3 best DJ gigs so far and the reasons that made them so special.

DJ K-Mixx: There are so many to choose from but 1)Palmesus festival in Kristiansand, Norway. It is always amazing when you have 10000 people dancing on a beach. 2)Playing a beach party for Diesel and 55Dsl in Sardinia all night long and playing Saltwater by Chicane just as the sun came up in the morning gave me goosebumps. 3)Finally the first times I played with Tiesto and Johan Gielen at Taket club in Stavanger, Norway.

Dimitri: Do you have any more DJ gigs planned for the next few months?

DJ K-Mixx: I have some gigs coming up in Norway, London and Italy.

Dimitri: Do you produce a radio show/podcast as well?

DJ K-Mixx: No I don't.

Dimitri: Best piece of advice you got in relation to your career so far and best tip you learnt recently to make your tracks better.

DJ K-Mixx: Work hard and don't take anything for granted.

Dimitri: Please give us here your tips or more elaborated advice for any new artists who may read this interview and wish to get involved with the electronic music industry.

DJ K-Mixx: Make the music you like and don't jump on trends. If you jump on a trend you end up at the end of that trend and you will go nowhere.
