REVIEW: Cassius feat. Cat Power & Mike D - Action out on Interscope/Polydor Records/UMG Germany

The story of Cassius testifies them as Dance legends. The duo grew out of the French Touch movement of the 1990s, where they met with companions like Daft Punk and with titles like "Feeling for You", "1999" and "The Sound of Violence" helped shape the future of electronic music. The small, intimate French house scene proved to be fertile ground for joint projects and offered Cassius soon international recognition: Philippe Zdar is now Grammy-winning producer and mixer for groundbreaking albums by bands like Phoenix, Kindness, Bloc Party, Chromeo, Cat Power and the Beastie Boys (just to name a few). In recent years, the influence of French House grew noticeably, and even Kanye West and Jay Z in their joint album Watch the Throne have used Cassius samples.

On Action they combine  delightful fusion of disco, house, Afro-beat, haunting pop hooks and Cat Power (Chan Marshall) and Beastie Boy Mike D  melancholic and explosive vocals. Now is the time for "Action"!

[content title="Summary" label="Overall Score"]Cassius are finally back with a single that is simply classy as were their previous tracks. Action is a wonderful hybrid of tribal grooves, deep funky basslines, guitar riffs and great classic house diva vocal samples. The original mix is 13 minutes long and maybe you will find at the end of it that you wish to continue for even longer. Hypnotic emotional and danceable without trying at all. It happens naturally to fall in love with it if you appreciate electronic music sounds. The package supports the release even more with great remixes that add more punch and mainstream club appeal. DJ Haus & Rushmore Remix deep Detroit style tech house bomb with minimal vocals and a lot of nice action. Norman Bay Nassau Remix has minimal hypnotic relaxing grooves and sensual strings while great percussion keep your feet tapping. Jesse Rose & Junior Sanchez Midnight Snacks Remix is mainstage essential future house version with metallic old school basslines and dominating rhythm that promises to make you move. Johnny Aux Remix is serious techno affair that uses the full vocal upon tribal chunky rolling groove that goes on and on, Dub In Lagos Remix is the perfect non vocals alternative to the original to enjoy the great percussion, guitar riffs, disco influences and afro tribal house beats. This is what I call Action. Love iT [/content]
