REVIEW:Daniel Wanrooy - Slice Of Life (Episode 9-10) out on Black Hole

1. Lotus
2. White Sands (with René Havelaar)

Daniel Wanrooy presents his latest release on the Black Hole imprint: the Slice Of Life EP, episode 9 and 10; featuring the singles “Lotus” and “White Sands”.

The ones who have followed all the Slice Of Life releases so far, have all witnessed the progression of Daniel’s tracks. Looking at Slice Of Life as a project, then it’s clear that all individual elements, read: the singles, all have their own colour, style and sound. “Lotus” opens the EP and is a highly percussive track that features a trademark Wanrooy arrangement with full focus on the melody line. For this EP we can safely say that Daniel didn’t shy away from ripping synth lines and distorted string chords and “Lotus” boasts all those layers with an incredible drive and power. Tech trance for the big rooms, but lovingly complex, with a definite symphonic icing on top of it.

“White Sands”, a collaboration with René Havelaar, is a marvelous deep trancer with a direct reference to Daniel’s previous releases that made it to Tiësto’s ISOS series. The striking part of the entire track is once again the well prepared arrangement and the unique choice of synth and string sounds. The sweeps and percussion placed in the production breathe a refreshing atmosphere and of course we should all check out the break, which returns to that lovely smooth synth programming that turns this cut into an absolute floorfiller!

Dimitri Kechagias review:One of the finest Dutch progressive trance maestros is back with another stunning episode of his Slice of Life Ep. The great series of unforgetable trance tunez continues with two exceptional tracks that will win your vote and support straight away. Lotus that opens the proceedings is a dynamic big room tech trancer with wonderful electronic like melody that sooths away the harsh nature of the prog tech trance style. Particularly when the breakdown will come and that big room siren like ravey riff will come up you will get the usual immediate reactions such as big screams and shouts. When the beat comes back it has a certain groovy rhythm  and you just feel that you are obliged to dance along with  it. Lotus like the well-known fruit from the Greek mythology will make you forget those bills that you have to pay and get in the middle of the dancefloor for the perfect escape from everything. White Sands co produced with  René Havelaar has a rough electroish bassline that lead us on the classical music breakdown that is simply stunning. The main part of the track is a full on melodic thunderstorm so powerful and emotional that in my mind classic trance anthems come straight away. Pure class, Pure genius. Black Hole at its best!
