The occasion of Perfecto’s 30th Anniversary is something that Paul Oakenfold’s used to both establish new bonds and reconnect with cohorts from across the label’s rich history. Case in point, the ensemble he’s put together for the compelling and beautiful ‘Say You’re Mine’, which sees Paul collaborate with both producer Nat Monday and singer-songwriter supreme, Christina Novelli.

Nat’s been a trusted go-to for Oakie for twenty-plus years, having supplied a half-dozen remixes or more to his productions (not least on ‘Bullet In The Gun’). An actual studio team-up though has been missing from their discographies, and in Christina’s respect, well it’s hard to imagine a longer overdue musical pairing! Lest it need saying, ‘Say You’re Mine’ is where all that comes correct!

What the trio have come up with is a track that cannily plays contemporary sounds and FX off against some time-honoured, Oakie styles and themes. Set again a powerfully rolling prog backing, Paul & Nat feed rock-edged guitars & electro frequencies into its production, while further in, pad, chords and moving melodies seize its fore. Adding the big feels, the title of Christina’s song says much about the types of emotion that are at play, as - vocally & lyrically - the singer lays it all out on the line.

The track is a powerful progressive trance beauty with chunky grooves, punchy basslines, steady cool beats and on top amazing rock guitar riffs plus effects and distortions that disappear when the magnificent voice of Christina voice appears. Underneath of her very credible performance brilliant synths and emotional strings leading to the climax that is full on rave synthy hook to the maximum. Of course the track moves in the song structure rather than being drop build up and go. Perfect for clubs and radio stations no doubt.
