#InDepth Interview with the upcoming duo Kolidescopes

KOLIDESCOPES is the duo of Dan and Johnny. Dan has produced for the likes of Charli XCX, Wiley, Juelz Santana and Marina And The Diamonds whilst Johnny hails from Australia and has already seen wild success with Parachute Youth, having reached platinum record sales.

We are glad that we did a wonderful interview with them about their track Want it on Humble Angel Dance.

Interview is written and conducted by Dimitri Kechagias, music journalist and radio host on 1mix radio

Dimitris: When did you start your involvement with electronic dance music and which music style you are more affiliated with and why?

Kolidescopes: We both have had a lot of involvement with electronic dance music for a while. I (Johnny) have from an early stage during my time with my project Parachute Youth, I find it a lot easier writing dance music and it flows more smoothly as I was brought up with it all my life. Dan and I are loving coming back into the Dance world and its so much fun to write.

Dimitris: Did you had the opportunity to attend any kind of music production course or are u completely self taught? Do you consider that is essential for any artist to complete any production course?

Kolidescopes:  No both of us are self taught and I don't think any course is necessary. Like anything, if you're willing to put in the work and the hours you can achieve just as much anyone else can. They're just different paths to the same goal.

Dimitris: In which label was your first ever release and how did you manage to attract the attention of the label?

Kolidescopes:  Our first release was with our label head Kieron Donoghue who founded Humble Angel Records. He's been a supporter of our project and is super passionate about what we do. We're very blessed :)

Dimitris: How long it took you to produce Want it and was an easy or difficult process? If you have faced any difficulties please tell us about them and how did you resolved them?

Kolidescopes: 'Want It' was one of our first sessions together. Whenever you work with someone in the studio for the first time, its about seeing if there's chemistry there and if its a good fit. Dan and I clicked immediately and just had fun with it, we're lucky to have the writing chemistry we do.

Dimitris: When the track finished did the label accepted it as it was produced or did the label recommend you to do some changes or fix certain things?

Kolidescopes: The label was very happy with it which is great, we've been working on polishing music ourselves and feel we're getting better every time.

Dimitris: Is this track an original composition or is it based on a template from another track produced from you or another producer?

Kolidescopes: It's purely original :)

Dimitris: Do you master the track yourself or the mastering is task for the record label? Do you understand mastering as being essential?

Kolidescopes: We got the mastering through our personal contacts. Yes, every track should have a good mix and master suitable to the song itself.

Dimitris: Do you have any future releases planned and when will be released?

Kolidescopes: Yes, we have tons of new music we can't wait to be released. As of dates, you can expect something in the coming month ;)

Dimitris: Please note down your favourite Top 5 tracks at this moment!

Kolidescopes: D'Angelo - Betray My Heart (Dino Soccio Remix)

Anderson Paak - Til It's Over

Br3nya - Good Food

Slang - Every Weekend

Kolidescopes - Want It ;)

Dimitris: Do you have any DJ gigs planned for the next few months?

Kolidescopes: We are putting together a pretty cool live show so hopefully will get on the road early this year.

Dimitris: Best piece of advice you got in relation to your career so far and best tip you learnt recently to make your tracks better....

Kolidescopes: 'If it sounds GOOD to you, it's bitchin'... if it sounds BAD to YOU, it's shitty. The more your musical experience, the easier it is to define for yourself what you like and what you don't like' - Frank Zappa

Dimitris: Can you give us your best travel tips in order to survive the long travelling hours?

Kolidescopes: Don't take everything too serious and smile, stay active and look after your body and finally don't sleep next to Dan because his snores shake the earth.

Thanks to Dan and Johnny aka Kolidescopes for taking some time to reply to this interview.
