REVIEW: Lane 8 - Diamonds feat Solomon Grey / Without You out on Anjunadeep

Daniel Goldstein aka Lane 8 has marked himself out this year as one of dance music’s most exciting names. After topping the Hype Machine chart last year with “Be Mine”, he has since been named a 'Future Star' by Pete Tong on BBC Radio 1, while his recent single “I Got What You Need" featuring Bipolar Sunshine was supported by Zane Lowe (Future Exclusive), Annie Mac, Mistajam and more.

The first of two Anjunadeep 06 contributions, “Diamonds” features vocals from hotly tipped UK artist Solomon Grey. Typically mellow percussion makes way for a rich arrangement of dark, melancholic melodies and a super deep bassline, whilst the epic vocals swirl throughout. Tinged with sadness yet also optimistic, this is another example of Daniel’s knack of creating not only top notch dancefloor grooves, but also powerful songs.

“Without You” follows suit, built around a simple, ultra-catchy melodic riff and retro-tinged vocal sample. Not many artists develop a trademark sound so quickly, but Lane 8’s self-proclaimed “dreamy back rub house” is in full effect here.

Diamonds lyrics
I see your face on the cover/
Gloss paint your lips like a lover/
Hot blood starts flooding into memories/
What you said still haunts like a melody/

Those times they shine like diamonds/
Shoot up this love affair/
White lies like knives in a poison heart/
I keep running but I never seem to the lose the dark/

Why don't you go and break the heart of me/
Just take another little part of me/
Why don't you go and take the heart of me/
I tell myself it's just the start of me

Dimitri Kechagias review: The most memorable moments is when suddenly you meet a wonderful track that make you close your eyes and loose yourself tottaly in music. Even most memorable is when you suddenly feel some unexplained tears in your cheeks and you feel so touched by it that you spend hours searching on the net about the artist that manage to move your feelings so much. One of my beloved artists that will definitely reach the high position that greatly deserves is Lane 8. His music is simply mindblowing, inspiring, and some may consider it life changing. His latest EP includes two top tracks that will be adored by many in various surprising parts of the globe.  First of all is the full vocal magic of Diamonds featuring the exquisite touching vocals by Solomon Grey. The track is a magical late night excursion with deep haunting basslines, techy irresistable grooves, balearic style synths, cinematic strings and melancholic atmosphere that goes hand in hand with the cold autumn weather. The vocal has warmth, eclectic touch while the witty lyrics are memorable and can mean different things on variety of people who will identify with them easily. On the other side of this imaginary vinyl there is the more straight forward deep house beauty Without You. Of course I must rephrase here as with Lane 8 there is no straight forward as he always has his own pathway he follows and ussually his sonic adventures are worth following closely step by step. Melodic, jazzy, soulful. warm, playful, sexy and extremely danceable is the track that can change the mood and can keep the dancefloor packed until the early morning. I wonder what we would we do without Lane  8? #PureGold Love IT
