REVIEW: Hector Merida - Journal out on Baroque records

Hector Merida grew up in Los Angeles and began DJing back in 1985, inspired by tracks like "Clear" by Cybotron (Juan Atkins), "The Chase" by Todd Terry, "French Kiss" by Lil Louis, "The Whistle Song" by Frankie Knuckles.. He just knew that techno and house were loves from the start and it's been like that to this day.

Hector Merida first gained notoriety as a producer/remixer under the alias Huggie in the Early-Nineties first appearing on the "Believe" compilation on X-Sight Records alongside well-respected artists of time, such as Kelly Reverb, Adam X, T-lOOO, and Frankie Bones. More recently he has worked with Richard "Merlyn" Martin as Martin Merida, various remixes and ultimately concentrating on his solo projects.

As 2012 draws to a close he feels that his music has elevated itself and is a bit more intelligent than the usual floor bangers. It has grown up and he is growing with it. After 27 years of house & techno music, Hector Merida still kindles a fire for the art form that burns brighter than even the most enthusiastic young up & comer..

And with that we are proud to announce his first artist album, released on the dawn of the new year, 9 emotive AND effective selections.. from the disco inspired, funk fueled 'Discotheque', the hybrid house sound of 'Gaia', to more deeper house numbers such as 'Spring Love' & 'Summer Love'..

You will even find a sprinkling of downbeat chill & groovin soul epics such as 'Melancoly' 'Vortex' & 'Peace With You'.. and some Drum & Bass & breaks with 'Uncanny Love' & 'Timeless'..

Wow is all we can say.. pure quality spanning every genre, from start to finish..

The great LP Journal by the USA based artist Hector Merida includes tracks that you can incorporate in deep tech house sets but also you can enjoy it easily at home. Lets take the album track by track and note down the first reactions to them. Peace With You (Original Mix): Superb electronica chill out track with eastern vibes in it, ambient style samples like sea waves create a really relaxing summery vibe. Spring Love (Original Mix): Deep grooves, sexy rhythm, hypnotic melodies and some melodramatic undertones. Slow moving with great  cinematic atmosphere as well. In the Vortex (Original Mix): Calming and very easy going electronica/lounge style track with irresistible groove and cinematic melodies that carry you spirit away easily. Gaia (Original Mix): Deep tech house monster tune with chunky beats, deep basslines and very cool male vocal sample that asks what really matters in life the material or the spiritual. Eastern vibes once again with nice flute melody in it.  Discotheque (Original Mix): Upfront tech house track with cool disco samples in the background, haunting deep basslines, relentless involving and evolving build up of the various elements ensures dancefloor usability. Timeless (Original Mix): Deep house with Break style beats and colourful atmosphere with plenty of mental images coming in your mind when you hear it. Melancholy (Original Mix): Deep lounge breaks electronica track with jazzy blues undertones and interesting vocal samples. It transfer you that feeling of autumn/winter melancholy. Summer Love (Original Mix): It has that optimistic atmosphere that anyone feels when he or she is in Love. Summery with tribal tech house beats and warm melodic layers to bring back the summer of love.Last but not least for Uncanny surprise us with his decision to move to the atmospheric drum m bass sound that is soothing, groovy and  very filmic too.
