REVIEW: Spencer Brown - Wannamaker incl Fatum remix out on Anjunabeats

Retro flavoured indie electro is perhaps not what you’d expect from a fellow of North Carolina’s Duke University, but Spencer Brown’s unique sound continues to turn heads of DJs worldwide. Counting the likes of Above & Beyond, Avicii and BBC Radio 1’s Danny Howard among his fans, Spencer’s first single on the label has a punchy progressive flavour, Anjunabeats Volume 12 favourite ‘Wannamaker’.

Full of summery top lines and funk fuelled attitude, ‘Wannamaker’s’ nu-disco edge gives the track an effervescent swagger. Laying somewhere between 80s inspired retro progressive and melodic deep house, this is yet another release full of charm and charisma.

Transforming the record for the big room are Grammy nominated quartet Fatum, fresh from the success of their latest single ‘Agera’. Amping up the brashness with cheeky drum fills and soaring synths, the boys once again deliver a high energy, club ready monster.

[content title="Summary" label="Overall Score"]Spencer Brown is a new name for Anjunabeats and his release proves the diversity  and open minded attitude that this label has in its music policy. The original is a great instrumental record that is based around a very memorable electro like synthy riff that is instantly recognisable and grabs your attention in seconds. It is slow groover that builds and builds with even addition of some more melodic synths to keep it varied and interesting. The original mix is  for the progressive house family and more experimental trance djs who wish to be educators and non genre conformists. For the big room trance family don't look any further than Fatum who give it a go and transform it into a big mainstage banger with punchy electrified weird wicked basslines and punchy drums while the instant memorable synthy riff comes slowly in and out until to land on the breakdown that is fully unleashed in order to build tension until the beat drops for the pumping and jumping climax that energize even the most bored person on earth ever. #PureGold Love It[/content]
