Tasty facts and figures about dj awards

DJ Awards started in 1998

Who chooses the Winners
The DJ Awards each year launch via their social media networks a selection of categories and nominees. All the nominees within the music genre categories open each year for the public to vote for their choice of DJ, the voting is also supported heavily through all the nominees social networks.

The voting is usually open for a short period, and attracts voters worldwide. The winners are invited to be presented with their award at a grand ceremony held at Ibiza’s most famous and stylish nightclub Pacha. The most celebrated DJ’s worldwide have won awards from Carl Cox, Tiesto, Armin Van Buuren, Paul Oakenfold, Deadmau5, Chase & Status, Sven Väth, Carl Cox, David Guetta, Sasha, Richie Hawtin, Jamie Jones, Seth Troxler and Luciano amongst many others.

There are also a selection of awards which are not open to voting, these awards are decided by a panel. The various special awards celebrate individuals, musical talents, productions, which often are groundbreaking.

In 1998 the very first DJ Awards was conceived by Jose Pascual, a legendary figure noted for organising ground breaking events held in Ibiza, and Lenny Krarup, a well known DJ/Producer & Record Label Owner.

The DJ Awards were created to recognise and celebrate the talents of the greatest DJ’s. The fundamental philosophy of the DJ Awards is not that of a competition, as we are dealing with an art form whose merits are purely subjective and therefore there is no best. Rather the DJ Awards focuses on the celebration of the electronic dance music scene, and seeks to let the world know that the art of DJ’ing is a respected craft with world-wide impact. This annual event is the only international DJ awards ceremony to be held in Ibiza which becomes the dance music capital of the world, during the summer months. It is also one of the longest running award ceremonies in the world, whilst enviably still retaining the same ethos as it did when it first started; to honour and celebrate DJs and individuals who have influenced electronic dance music across the globe.

Categories & Nominees

Each year the DJ Awards team works together with a panel of electronic dance music finest; from managers, promoters, venue owners, media moguls, record companies, music pr companies and ofcourse the DJs themselves to help compile the list of categories & nominees.

It’s an unenviable task, a complicated business, especially today where DJ's known over the years for one defining music style, now are multi-tasking to an extent that most DJ´s can fit into at least 2 or 3 different genres.

We cant say that everyone will agree with us, its subjectivity at its best. However if our list of nominees brings about some healthy debate, then bring it on; this is afterall the nature of the beast!

The DJ Awards Trophy is a piece of green kryptonite. The word kryptonite embodies Crypto (The code and mystery of life) and Nite (The nightlife and its culture). This draws together the sense of adventure and surprise that lies ahead as the sun begins to set and the children of the night spring to life. We have no better explanation for this than Hausman’s famous quote: “Life is not a riddle to be solved, but a mystery to be experienced
