EVENT NEWS: The Unconference returns 28th of April in Leeds


We're really pleased to announced the schedule and speakers for this years' Unconference. With up to four streams throughout the day, workshops, presentations and panel discussions, it's our biggest event yet! Speakers include:

The Unconference is a day of panels, workshops, presentations and networking for those working in, or aspiring to work in the music industry. It is free to attend, but you need to register through our website here. The event opens at 10am with registration at The Wardrobe Bar. We are part of Live At Leeds and Leeds International Festival and supported by Leeds Beckett University, Leeds College of Music and PRS For Music Foundation.

WELCOME & INDUSTRY KEYNOTE: 10.45am - 11.30am (Leeds College of Music)
Unconference organisers will welcome attendees in Leeds College of Music’s Venue, followed by an Industry Keynote from Zach Fuller of MIDiA Research. Zach will discuss topics industry trends and topics such as impact of windowing and the monetisation distinction between platforms such as Spotify and YouTube.

SESSION 1: 12.00pm - 13.00pm

Label Panel Discussion (Leeds College of Music)
Our panel discuss what the opportunities and challenges of a record label are in 2017, and how they are using new ideas and delivery concepts to bring records to music fans.

Self-Employment / Business Workshop (The Wardrobe Venue)
Simon Palmer (Garbutt & Elliot) and Francois El-Alfy (Music Industry Professional) run through the basics of how you may need to operate as self-employed in many areas of the music industry, what options you have, what responsibilities you have, and how best to navigate them

Spotify Artist & Manager Masterclass (The Wardrobe Venue)
Drew Lam from Spotify’s Artist and Management team presents this Masterclass that aims to provide all the information and tools artists and managers need to build their presence on the platform. The session will include guidance on how to build listeners and followers, product/artist tools update, how playlists work and how to measure performance via Spotify data.

This session is only available to artists and managers, and attendees need to sign-up on registration.
