REVIEW: Seven Lions & Jason Ross feat. Paul Meany - Higher Love out on Anjunabeats

A collaboration from two of the scene’s most innovative artists, Jeff Montalvo, aka. Seven Lions, joins forces with Anjunabeats young gun Jason Ross for "Higher Love," featuring the vocal talents of MUTEMATH’s Paul Meany.

Responsible for some of the finest reworks in the Anjunabeats catalogue, Seven Lions’ experimental approach transformed the likes of Above & Beyond’s “You Got To Go” and Velvetine’s "The Great Divide" into modern cult classics. His first original release on the label aligns him with a mainstay of the Anjunabeats roster, Jason Ross, whose ear for uplifting melodies and polished club records has turned him into a global star in 2016.

Originally connecting for Jason’s remix of Seven Lion’s smash “Creation,” the two quickly realized the relationship could grow further. “This collab with Jason was probably one of the quickest and smoothest I've ever worked on,” said Jeff. “It started out with a really simple piano melody that you hear in the middle and then we just started building on it over a few weeks. All through email but we would be working on it at the same time and constantly sending updates. I think it was a really fun collab, really excited about how it turned out.”

"It was amazing to see how quickly the rest of track took shape," described Jason, "working with Jeff was a breeze and felt completely natural. We really trusted each-other's creative sense and just built on idea after idea. We knew at the start that we wanted a powerful track that displayed both of our styles, and we think we did just that.”

They were then left to find the perfect vocal. Insert Paul Meany from MUTEMATH, a veteran talent with a keen indie sensibility who was immediately drawn to the tune. "There are certain tracks that just pull melodies and lyrics right out of you whether you're ready or not,” described Paul. “Seven Lions and Jason dialed this one in perfectly for where I love to go as a singer. I’m so honored to be a part of this song.”
